Description:
Kaden Thorn, a dental surgeon who lives a quiet life, has no hope of finding the love he craves. A vicious gay bashing cost him the use of his legs and confined him to a wheelchair. He has given up hope of finding a Dom or even a nonkink partner to love him. When his best friend practically forces him to attend a dinner party, the last thing he expects is a strong Dom who can see beyond his wheels.
Deacon James is an architect and a demanding Dom, but he has spent the past couple of years without a sub or partner. When an employee invites him to a dinner party to meet his girlfriend, Deacon smells a setup but agrees anyway. He prides himself on being an excellent judge of character, and when he meets the younger dentist, he sees past the chair and finds a sweet submissive man who more than piques his interest.
Kade’s fears and demons continue to haunt him, challenging Deacon to use everything he’s learned as a Dom to earn Kade’s trust and submission. Deacon’s determined, though, willing to battle all of it to have Kade by his side and at his feet.

My Review: 3 1/2 Stars
In Caged Sanctuary by Tempest O’Riley we have Kade, a sub who was injured in an attack a few years previous who is now wheelchair bound. He is emotionally broken and doesn’t know how any Dom will ever accept him with his physical limitations. A few bad experiences after his attack have driven home the point that others feel pity and see him as a broken man who is no longer able to serve. Professionally, he is a successful and well off dental surgeon but he can’t bring himself to try again for a new life in the scene.
The Dom in this story, Deacon, is a wealthy architect who has little need for temporary subs. While he used to enjoy the club scene years ago, he finds that he wants a real partner as well as an obedient boy. A chance meeting with Kade has him intrigued and they develop a D/s relationship that works well for them. Love comes along with the BDSM and they both get their happily ever after.
A few thoughts on this story:
I had a little trouble with Kade’s character. For someone who had risen to such success as a dental surgeon (a very well known one apparently), he came off as very insecure in his personal life. I’m sure there are a number of people like that but I just couldn’t see the successful surgeon and the timid sub as the same person. I think I would see him more as a bratty sub with a bit of attitude and aloofness to him.
The BDSM is light…if you are looking for hard core pain this isn’t your book. But, it is well done. They talk things through, go over limits and safe words, enjoy bondage and pain despite Kade’s limited mobility, and they are exactly what the other one needs in a partner. I found myself waiting for a moment when Kade had to use his safe word. I just expected with his history that something would have come up that tested his boundaries a little bit. These two guys were perfect for each other but maybe a little TOO perfect. I think there needed to be some sort of conflict other than overcoming Kade’s emotional insecurity.
Deacon was a little stiff and formal sounding but a great guy. He was creative in coming up with solutions to Kade’s mobility issues and very thoughtful about making sure he maintained his independence. He seemed to be the perfect balance between tender and controlling. I found myself wondering how he knew so much about interacting with people in wheel chairs…a hand on the shoulder and not the chair, not towering over them, etc. Did he know someone in the past who was in a wheel chair?
While these two guys moved from ‘nice to meet you’ to ‘sir and boy’ a bit quickly, it was an enjoyable story. I think a bit more distrust on Kade’s part would have been more natural for his character but I enjoyed these two guys together and would definitely read more books by this author!
