When love’s on the line, the brave jump in with both feet…
Small town cop Clint Rivera can’t catch a break. His ex of two weeks is suddenly getting married, his dogs tore up his furniture, he’s getting evicted, and he’s out of beer. When he decides to solve his alcohol shortage by going to his ex’s engagement party, Clint winds up too drunk to drive himself home.
Enter gorgeous deputy-mayor Hawk Black, the man who constantly shows up unexpectedly and sends Clint’s body and mind into a tailspin with nothing but his whiskey voice and blue eyes. After months of patience, Hawk can finally seduce the man he’s been craving.
Clint’s day might not have started out well, but Hawk’s going to make sure it ends with a bang, preferably in bed. He’ll show Clint some rewards are worth the risk. With love on the line, Clint will need to decide if he can open his heart, tear down his shields, and jump in with both feet.
My Review:
Clint is having a spectacularly bad day. Dumped by his boyfriend he heads out for a couple weeks of camping only to return to utter chaos. Apparently, his ex was as faithful as he thought he was and is now getting married…to a woman. And the invitation to the engagement party in his mailbox is only the tip of the iceberg that is his crappy day. Add on the eviction notice, the destruction of his house by his loving dogs, and his lack of beer he is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. When he heads to his ex’s engagement party to get drunk, he is rescued from a drunk driving offense by one very sexy Hawk Black.
Hawk has been lusting after Clint from afar for quite a while and rescuing him from the chaos that is his life gives him an ‘in’ that he is more than happy to take. Hawk is smooth, sexy, and in command and it just what Clint needs to get his life back on track. The heat between them is off the charts and Hawk is determined that Clint won’t need to be looking for a new place to live ever again.
I liked Clint and really felt for him with all the things he was going through. He was dumped, evicted, and at whit’s end and you can just feel the weight pressing down on him. The fact that he decided to go to his ex’s engagement party to get drunk was amusing and after a brief look at the ex I don’t get why Clint ever dated him at all.
Hawk was the knight in shining armor when he swoops in to save Clint from himself but the whole ‘I have loved you for months and moved here just to be with you’ thing was a tad bit creepy. Seemed a little bit stalkerish for me and the instalove was a bit unrealistic.
This book is short, so things move along very quickly. It is a cute story with amusing bits and sexy bits and characters I enjoyed but I wish it had been longer so these characters could have had more time to actually get to know each other and fall in love in a more traditional manner.
About the Author:
Cardeno C. –CC to friends – is a hopeless romantic who wants to add a lot of happiness and a few “awwws” into a reader’s day. Writing is a nice break from real life as a corporate type and volunteer work with gay rights organizations.
Cardeno’s stories range from sweet to intense, contemporary to paranormal, long to short, but they always include strong relationships and walks into the happily-ever-after sunset.
