Sweet Friends to Lovers Romance: Scorpio Hates Virgo by Anyta Sunday

December 6, 2017 by Devan Huff Leave a Comment

Scorpio Hates Virgo by Anyta Sunday is a sweet friends to lovers romance with a smile-inducing happily ever after. Percy struggles with the loss of his beloved aunt, continues to put off selling her house, and absolutely does NOT fall in love with his childhood arch enemy.  I received one copy of this book at no charge in exchange for my honest reviews but all opinions expressed here are my own.  This post contains affiliate links. Book Blurb:

This year is all about healing the heart, Scorpio. It’s time to leave negative attitudes and stoic facades at the door and let others see the real, more vulnerable you.

Percy Freedman is not grieving. Absolutely not, take that back at once. No, he’s entirely sure that selling his dead aunt’s home and leaving the neighbors he’s known for years is the sane thing to do. Who in their right mind would keep the house that smells like all the hugs he’ll never have again?

Nobody, that’s who.

Well, except his cul-de-sac neighbors. They all seem to think some paint and new furniture will clean the emotional slate. They all want him to stay.

Even his nemesis, Callaghan Glover.

Especially his nemesis, Callaghan Glover.

Lured into a game of Sherlock Gnomes, Percy finds himself hanging out with his neighbors more than might be considered healthy. Along with juggling new and surprising verbal grenades from Cal, and his burgeoning friendship with Gnomber9, Percy is starting to wonder if selling might have been the grief talking after all . . .

That’s right, Scorpio. With a little patience, heartbreak might be a thing of the past . . .

“Scorpio Hates Virgo” contains sarcasm, sexual content, a slightly sappy HEA, and an unhealthy obsession with dinosaurs.
It can be read as a standalone.

My Review:

I am a huge fan of friends to lovers romance books and this one was a huge hit.  So much so that as soon as I finished it, I went to Amazon and bought the rest of the books in this series.  I am definitely putting Anyta Sunday on autobuy!

The Characters

Percy was kicked out of his home by his parents when he came out in his teens and spent the years before college living with his aunt.  They were incredibly close and he is heartbroken over her death.  He has come back home to sell her house but seems to find a million things that need to be done before that can happen.  In between household chores, there are social activities with the neighbors, emotional introspection, and some lively bantering with his childhood nemesis, Callaghan Glover.  The astrological signs play a big, if someone amusing, part of this story.  Percy is a Scorpio.  He doesn’t trust easily and is rather prickly.

Callaghan Glover is a Virgo.  He puts his family above all else.  That poses a bit of a problem when it comes to leading his own life.  He has put a lot of things on hold as he prioritizes his family over his own needs.

The Setting

There is no good way to describe how awesome this neighborhood is.  The author did an amazing job creating a vivid setting with a wide array of unique characters.  Each one played a special part in the development of this sweet friends to lovers romance.

The Relationship

These two aren’t really enemies and never were.  They were flirting but just didn’t realize it.  There is a very long, slow burn in this book….they don’t really figure things out for quite a while. But, when they finally realize there is more to their verbal sparring than they realized, you are just so dang happy they are finally together!

Overall

So, I thought the story was a bit TOO cute at times but overall it was a sweet, low angst, friends to lovers romance that I really enjoyed.  Not super high on the heat scale but just right and very meaningful.  Amazingly creative setting and well-developed characters.  Definitely read the rest of the series as well!
