THE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS:

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

N.D.Clark is an American author who loves gay romance/erotica set in historical backgrounds. He enjoys writing, reading and spending time with his husband Jim, whose words of encouragement have kept him on the path to authorship: ‘I Believe In You.’

Can you give the readers a brief summary of your latest book?

Michael Gunderson comes of age just after WWII ends. He wants nothing more than to leave behind an oppressive life of rural farming to strike out on his own and discover what the alluring world has to offer to men who love other men. Michael’s big break arrives when he’s offered a porter’s job on a troop train with the Pennsylvania Railroad and begins a journey of sexual discovery that culminates in his meeting the love of his life.

What genre does it fall in?

Historical Romance

Will you share a few words about your latest book, other than the usual blurb?

Troop Train is short story about a young man coming of age who decides he just can’t stand rural farm life any longer. His desire to explore sex with other men leads him to strike out on his own, taking an adventurous job as a porter for the Pennsylvania Rail Road.

Give us a little insight into your main characters! Who are they?

Michael Gunderson is the main character in this short story. He has been trying to leave his parent’s rural way of life on a dairy farm in New Jersey for years. Long before he graduated high school, he applied for a porter’s job with the Pennsylvania Rail Road and had made many attempts to join the military. He was repeatedly rejected by the military for the absence of arches in his feet. Then one day, he receives an unexpected letter from the rail road and the adventure begins. After Michael begins his new job, he meets a brazen sailor by the name of Petty Officer Keith Hearn. Keith has always played the field, never allowing himself to become serious with another man. Things change quickly once he gets to really know Michael. But Keith is hiding a huge secret from Michael, a secret that has the potential to ruin their relationship before it has even started.

Will we be seeing these characters again any time soon? Is this book part of a series?

No

Tell us a little bit about your writing style. When and where is your favorite time/place to write?

My office which faces no open windows. My times to write are usually early morning and late in the evening.

What sort of book do you enjoy reading in your free time? What was the last book you read? Did you enjoy it?

A short paranormal story named Not Far From Here by T.W. Smith. It was immensely enjoyable. It opens with an old man, whose face is disfigured, asking if the main character would like to see a ghost; unfortunatley for the protag, he answers yes!

Did you always know you wanted to be a writer? Have you held any interesting jobs while you worked on your books?

I never gave much thought about becoming a writer until a few years ago at age 49. I’ve regretted not discovering writing at a much earlier age, but I’m so happy that I eventually did. Since becoming a writer, I haven’t worked; I’m fortunate to have a very supportive and loving husband who has given his blessing to my pursuit of writing.

What does your writing process look like?

First of all, I use Scrivener and adore all of the useful tools it provides a writer. I usually try to do some sort of outline and then write two sentence tag line followed by a blurb and then eventuall a synopsis. These are all wonderful ways to keep me from straying to for from the storyline.

Why did you choose to write GLBTQ romance? Why not another genre?

It’s what I enjoy reading the most. Besides, I’m gay and consider myself somewhat of a subject matter expert. And they always say write what you know.

One last questions…totally unrelated to books! I am a passionate foodie. Is there one thing in your pantry that you would be horrified for people to know that you eat?

I suppose peanut butter because of the horrific amount of fat and calories it contains. I try not to keep much of it around the house, because when I start eating it, I have trouble stopping.

Thank you so much for answering my questions. I think my readers will enjoy learning more about you! Good luck in your future writing!
