In Yours All Along by Roni Loren, Hunter is living a lie. While he plays the roll of ball player and politician’s son very well, what he really wants is the man he left behind many years ago. Will he be able to find the courage to take what he so desperately wants? I received one copy of this book at no charge through Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion. Blurb:
Four years after an accident tore their friendship apart, Hunter and Devon are living separate lives. Hunter is now the all-America hero—a congressman’s son and a pro pitcher in Houston preparing to marry his beauty-queen girlfriend. Devon is in Dallas running a new restaurant.
But when Hunter unexpectedly shows up in Devon’s bar, Devon can’t turn him away. Damn it if the man isn’t still gorgeous. But engaged? Hell no. All he’s doing for Devon is bringing back memories of their college-roommate days, and the night their relationship went too far. Turns out Hunter has never forgotten it either.
Now Devon can’t help but be drawn in all over again by the only guy who’s ever gotten close enough to break his heart. Maybe one more night together would be enough for both of them to finally move on. Or maybe one night will change everything…
My Review:
In Yours All Along by Roni Loren, Hunter is living a lie. He is a professional ball player, son of an important politician, and engaged to marry a woman. But he secretly longs for his best friend from college. His very MALE best friend from college.
Devon holds memories of Hunter close to his heart. After their friendship got a little too close, Devon was pushed out of Hunters life and nobody else has ever made it past his defenses. A surprise visit from Hunter was the last thing he expected but might be what he desperately needs.
I absolutely loved the characters in Yours All Along by Roni Loren. The friendship between these two men is so well written. I was smiling over their college frat pranks and could really sense how close they were to each other.
Hunter struggled between accepting what Devon really meant to him and being stuck in a situation that made staying with him impossible. When he was younger, his father’s money, his college education, and baseball would all disappear if he came out. I understand the self preservation he chose to go with although it was sad.
I didn’t get as good a read on Devon in this story. The focus is primarily on Hunter and his issues but I wanted to get inside Devon’s head a bit more.
My one complaint was how quickly it ended. A lot of Yours All Along is a flashback to college, which definitely was a very important aspect of this book. I wanted more of Devon and Hunter in the present. I want to know how Hunter’s dad reacts to his coming out (badly, I’m sure!). I want to see Macy and Hunter talk about his decisions. Does Hunter keep playing ball? I think the story could have continued quite a bit and watching Devon and Hunter fall back in love would have been beautiful.
Overall, Yours All Along by Roni Loren is a very well written. Characters were well developed, realistic and very likable. Just the right amount of heat to go with the storyline and they were so sweet together.
Add on about 5 or 6 more chapters and it would have been perfect!
