Fight the Tide Book Blurb:
A virus that turns the infected into zombie-like killers spreads through a burning world thrown into lawless chaos. Lovers Parker and Adam have escaped to the open sea when they hear a message over the airwaves from a place called Salvation Island—a supposed safe haven.
Orphaned as a child, werewolf Adam has always longed for a pack. He’s eager to investigate the island, but Parker doesn’t think for a nanosecond that the voice on the radio can be believed. He doesn’t trust anyone but Adam and is determined to keep it that way. They don’t need anyone else complicating their struggle to survive. Or do they?
Danger on the high seas can surface in a heartbeat, and if Parker and Adam aren’t careful, the current will drag them under.
Fight the Tide Review:
I really enjoyed reading Kick at the Darkness Book One by Keira Andrews and have been looking forward to reading the next installment of the series. The first book ends with Adam and Parker finding haven on a large sail boat and trying to stay alive as a horrible virus sweeps the world. The virus leaves people zombie like and the entire planet is in chaos. Their relationship is strong, although still very new.
In Fight the Tide, Adam and Parker continue with their forays into occasional towns for supplies, some trips going better than others. Thankfully the zombies don’t swim so the boat is a safe haven. They discover a few other survivors along the way as they make their way down the coast of Florida. Some of these experiences are better than others and I won’t give away a ‘who’s who’ so you can read those for yourself.
The big drama (or end goal) is the voice on the two way radio that keeps calling them to a mysterious sanctuary. Is it a trap? Will this sanctuary welcome them and offer them a home? They have to battle weather, zombies, survivors both good and bad, their own personal demons, etc and all they really want is to survive. The big question is who’s version of ‘survival’ will they end up going with?
I don’t think that Fight the Tide was quite as intense as Kick at the Darkness. Book one was very fast paced and action packed. Book two is more about the human spirit, a building relationship, trust, family and discovery of who each of these characters is as a person as well as part of a couple. Adam and Parker have a strong connection but the situation puts a lot of stress on them and they struggle to cope at times.
The chemistry is hot between the two although there was one scene that wasn’t quite my thing. You’ll know it when you get to it but to each their own! These guys are definitely in love and life altering zombie viruses are no match for young and horny!
There are a few tragic events along the way….while they don’t encounter too many creepers since they are on the boat, their forays onto land are dramatic and often end badly.
There is an inspiring message to the whole book which is basically all about what the word family really means. Parker and Adam struggle to figure out a way to create a family in this new and not so pleasant world. It’s not always easy but in the end, the bond they create is beautiful.
