Need New Romantic Suspense Books? Read Kill Game by Cordelia Kingsbridge!

October 30, 2017 by Devan Huff Leave a Comment

If you are looking for new romantic suspense books, let me just say that Kill Game by Cordelia Kingsbridge was gripping and absolutely unforgettable. This killer likes to play games, and the deck is not stacked in Levi and Dominic’s favor!  I received one copy of this book at no charge in exchange for my honest reviews but all opinions expressed here are my own.   After you read Kill Game, read book 2 of the Seven of Spades series, Trick Roller.

Kill Game (Seven of Spades) (Volume 1)Can't Hide from Me

Book Blurb:

Homicide detective Levi Abrams is barely holding his life together. He’s reeling from the fallout of a fatal shooting, and his relationship with his boyfriend is crumbling. The last thing he’s prepared for is a serial killer stalking the streets of Las Vegas. Or how he keeps getting thrown into the path of annoyingly charming bounty hunter Dominic Russo.

Dominic likes his life free of complications. That means no tangling with cops—especially prickly, uptight detectives. But when he stumbles across one of the Seven of Spades’s horrifying crime scenes, he can’t let go, despite Levi’s warnings to stay away.

The Seven of Spades is ruthless and always two moves ahead. Worst of all, they’ve taken a dangerously personal interest in Levi and Dominic. Forced to trust each other, the two men race to discover the killer’s identity, revealing hidden truths along the way and sparking a bond neither man expected. But that may not be enough to protect them.

This killer likes to play games, and the deck is not stacked in Levi and Dominic’s favor.

My Review:

If you are looking for new romantic suspense books, you need to read Kill Game by Cordelia Kingsbridge! I was glued to this book from the moment I started it and can’t wait for book two of the Seven of Spades series! This author is proving to be worthy of my short auto-buy list…check out my review for Can’t Hide from Me by Cordelia Kingsbridge and keep an eye on her!

So, I will try and give you a peek at the details without giving away any spoilers!

The characters

The story starts with Homicide detective Levi Abrams who is fresh off a very justified officer-involved shooting that he is still struggling with emotionally.  He is also in a long-term committed relationship that is having problems.  Levi is high strung and stressed out but holding his own.  He is passionate about being a cop and is starting to realize that love is not enough to base a future on.

Annoyingly charming bounty hunter Dominic Russo likes his uncomplicated life.  Bounty hunting by day, bouncer at a nightclub by night, and in no way is he letting his mind wander to the very cute but very unavailable detective Abrams.  He has an amazing support system thanks to his family and is a recovering gambling addict.  He is a gentle giant…huge in size but soft at heart.

I absolutely loved these characters in this book. They are strong with just a hint of vulnerability.  There is a depth to them that I just love and there is no ‘love at first sight’ for these guys.  It is a slow burn, a discovery, and when they do finally fall into each other’s arms…the passion is hot and real and absolutely spectacular.

While these two guys move in the same circles, they really get plunged together over a serial killer with an eye for vigilante justice.  They are both incredibly intelligent and observant.  They make great partners as they rush to discover the identity of the serial killer.

The plot

Basically, the entire story revolves around the mystery of the serial killer and the plot is amazingly well thought out.  Let me just say that this is book #1 in the series.  You can kind of guess from that about whether everything is wrapped up nice and tidy at the end.  HINT:  It isn’t!  I honestly have zero clue how the book OR the series is going to end.  There is no glaringly obvious answer here and I can’t wait to get to book #2 to see if any of my ideas pan out!

I love that Cordelia Kingsbridge wrote this story with the plot as the main focus.  Yes, you have the developing romance but it is NOT the main focus of the book.  However, when Levi and Dominic finally do get together, it is truly beautiful and scorchingly hot!

And can I just say that I kind of like the character that the author has created for the serial killer?  They have a strange fascination with Levi and Dominic and almost develops their own character in the story even though you don’t know anything about him or her at all.

This is one of the best new romantic suspense books I have read yet.  You really need to read Kill Game by Cordelia Kingsbridge!
